Mary Carr…state qualifier in track! Congrats!

Congratulations to Mary Carr!  State-bound track star!

Mary Carr finished 4th in the 400m Regional track final breaking her own record she set on Wednesday by posting a 58.41sec run. Mary will run at state Friday morning.

FYI, Mary is the first girl from DC to go to state since 2004 when Courtney Reid competed in the 300m low hurdles and finished 8th.

Great job, Mary! Go Warriors!

Note from Mrs. Folkerts…

Dear Students & Parents,

As you know, I will not be returning next year.  I will be working at my husband’s law firm.  Since I worked with several of the attorneys at the Patent & Trademark Office in Washington, D.C., it will be fun to get back to working together.

I want you to know that the students have touched my heart greatly.  They will be sorely missed.  The fun and excitement they brought into the classroom will be forever in my memory.  I pray that they exceed all expectations in math and science as they enter college.  I also want to pray for you and your families as God’s sovereign plan is demonstrated in your lives.  Please keep in touch.  Also, Rebekah will still be a DC student so I will be visiting the school for various occasions.

God bless,

Cindy Folkerts

Grant Awarded! Thank you for praying!

Praise the Lord! We just received word from Rich Anglin in Columbus that the State of Ohio has awarded the $2.4 million grant for which we have been requesting your prayers!

This grant will be used in coming months to make several major site improvements at Xenia Christian and the Legacy Center campus.

We can certainly attest to the words of Habakkuk 1:5, “Look at the nations and watch and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.”

To think that fewer than 18 months ago, DCSS was able to pay off over $8.5 million of debt and received a $388,000 grant to tear down the dorms at the Dayton Christian campus on the same day is incredible.

Now, God has blessed our school system again!

Thank you for your prayers.

Gratefully in Christ,
Bob Elliott

DO YOU KNOW CHRIST? or DO YOU KNOW CHRISTIANITY?

Image

Sophomore and Junior English Teacher Danny Kloosterman continued his series entitled #ChristianSchoolProblems in Monday Devotions. Mr. Kloosterman taught from the text in I Timothy 4:12 which says, “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” This week the emphasis was on ‘conduct’. Mr. K dispelled the false belief that avoidance of “bad” stuff is evidence of true relationship with Jesus. In I Timothy 6:11-12 Paul does not just tell Timothy to flee, he also tells him to pursue, to fight, and to take hold. Relationship with Jesus transforms our lives into ones of action. This is a beautiful and hard reality because it forces us to reflect on our own walk and ask tough questions. Is transformation of any kind taking place in my life? Do I run from God when I sin? or Do I run to God when I sin? Mr. K closed with a charge for the students to reflect on their conduct and ask the question: Do I know Christ? or Do I know Christianity?

Real Men

Here is a little video to wet your appetite. Last week the men and women of Dayton Christian had spiritual emphasis week. The theme for the men was “Man-UP,” and the theme for the women was “JOURNEY ON.” A full update on all the good things that God has been doing coming soon. Please continue to pray for God’s will to be done in our school.

Heath Harding finished 2nd in the 100 meter race at the Eaton Invitational.  Jake Nash was 2nd in the high jump and Adam Jackson took top honors in the shot put.

Last Saturday four Lady Warriors competed at the Eaton Invitational and represented themselves and the school well. In the 4 x 200 the team of Mary Carr, Danielle Darkow, Alissa Deal and Taylor Flynn, placed 6th with the fastest relay time of the past 4 years; Mary placed 3rd in the 200, her new best time this year, and 5th in the 400 while Danielle placed 6th in the 400, doing her best time of the year and trailing by only .1sec. behind Mary. Alissa jumped her best in the long jump so far this year. It was bitterly cold – just ask them. Coach Carlson

Baseball…

In front of a great crowd on Thursday evening at Wright State University, the Dayton Christian Warriors lost 5-3 to Troy Christian, despite out hitting their opponent nine to six.   Mike King racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Warriors.  He singled in the second and seventh innings.  Brandon Williams and Andrew Hardy each had 2 hits.  Tanner Green was very good on the mound, allowing just 6 hits in 7 innings of work, striking out 2 and walking just 1 Troy Christian batter.  The team played well defensively committing no errors.  DC will play again Friday night as they host Yellow Springs at Action Sports Center in Dayton.  Thanks to all the students, teachers, staff, family and friends who came out to support the baseball team last night.  It was a great night of baseball regardless of the outcome. Lisa Hardy

Dayton Christian Warriors proceeded to a 3-1 victory in seven innings over Springfield Cavs on Tuesday at Home. Tanner Green worked out of five tough spots for Dayton Christian Warriors. He pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run on six hits. Green faced his toughest situation in the sixth inning. Dayton Christian Warriors jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Matt Farmer started the rally for Dayton Christian Warriors with a single. A stolen base then moved Farmer from first to second. Then a fielder’s choice scored Farmer. The lead stayed with Dayton Christian Warriors after the fourth, when it scored one run on an RBI single by Sam Worley. Lisa Hardy

DCHS…Athletic Sweet Sauce!

DC Family,

As we head into the final stretch of the 2011-12 school year, the Warriors need your support at athletic events just as much as they did in the fall and winter seasons! Please take a look at DCS’s upcoming athletic events: http://www.highschoolsports.net/school/Dayton-Christian-HS-Miamisburg-OH/All/All/All/

We are looking forward to a good showing from our Tennis, Baseball, Softball and Track & Field teams. Each of these spring sports counts towards the Metro Buckeye Conference All-Sports trophy; a trophy which DC holds a ten point lead on headed into the final weeks of the school year.

Keep praying…grant update!

In our last communication, we asked for prayer regarding our District 11 ranking for the CORF grant for which we are applying. I am happy to announce that on April 9th, we were indeed ranked unanimously number one in our district!

We are excited about the prospect that this several million dollar project would not only hugely affect Xenia Christian but also our campus partners, Athletes in Action and Strong Tower Communication.

Your continued prayers are still needed, as the next step is for the Clean Ohio Council to review the applications on May 18. Based upon the scoring system, it appears that our project will be ranked number 10 in the State, and, if there are no further changes, our request for $2,774,656 could be the last project for which full funding would be granted.

Soon after the May 18th meeting, the Clean Ohio Council will announce its awards. Subsequently, the State Controlling Board will review and make final approval of the awards. Grant agreements will then be executed, most likely this summer.

We still rest firmly on the scripture from the last email, Psalm 135:5-6: “I know that the LORD is great, that our Lord is greater than all gods. The LORD does whatever pleases Him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths.” Again, I say, “May it please Him to hear our request!”

Thank you, again, for praying and for now acknowledging God’s blessings with us.  We will certainly keep you updated as things progress.

Gratefully in Christ,

Bob Elliott
President/CEO
