Highlights of Mr. Graham’s Chapel

Chapel Review and Student Video

Barna Research group shows that the current cultural trend is for teens and college age students to remain single far longer than in the past. Several factors have caused this i.e. adolescence in young men lasting much longer, and women growing more and more independent. But, regardless of the cause, we feel it necessary to address singleness from a Gospel perspective. (notes on chapel below)

Therefore, DCHS Math Teacher Dave Graham spoke in chapel this morning on ‘God’s Love and Singleness.’ Mr. Graham challenged the “worldly” view of singleness, as one that places oneself at the center of importance everyday, by looking at the writings of Paul in I Corinthians 7:32-35 & Ephesians 5:21-33 and sharing from personal life experience . If we have the wrong perspective about God then we start to think that God is witholding things from us. Actually, a good way to know if you have a wrong perspective of God is if you feel like He is witholding something from you. Thankfully, God’s desire is to bring glory to Himself. Therefore, a follower of God does not express belief in Him by acting as if finding a spouse and starting a family is the purpose of life. Someone being single is not a mistake. God does not forget people, instead He allows every circumstance that happens in life for the purpose of bringing glory to Himself. Read Ephesians 4:22-31 and place your name where Paul is referring to “the wife” for Christ is the bridegroom and we (the church) are His bride. God calls us to submit ourselves to the Lord in the midst of a ‘sex’ driven culture where submitting to ones own desires is paramount. He does this because He knows, and wants us to know, that submission to Him is the only way for us to experience the joy of Him receiving all the glory regardless of our circumstance.

Parents, some good topics for dinner table discussion:

  • What if I never get married?
  • What is the most important thing when looking for a spouse? Why?
  • Why is loving God the best thing I could do for my spouse?
  • What happens when God is not being sought in a relationship?
  • What type of man/women do you want to marry?
  • Do we as a family have a Gospel perspective of singleness & marriage, or, do we view them as the world views them?

(Student’s express their thoughts on singleness)

Swimming Update…boys break record! Plus diving sectional pics!

Congrats to Jamie Schindler (2nd in the Dive Sectionals) and Tyler Sledge placed 5th.

Saturday February 4th, the Dayton Christian Swim Team participated in the Carroll Invitational at Wright State University, the final tune up before this week’s sectionals.  The team is peaking at just the right time as many Personal Best times were achieved.  School records continue to fall as congratulations goes out to TYLER SLEDGE, TODD LANDIS, MICHAEL RARICK, and ERICH WIGGERSHAUS, THE NEW DAYTON CHRISTIAN BOYS SWIM TEAM RECORD HOLDERS FOR THE 200 YARD FREESTYLE RELAY WITH A TIME OF 1:45:77!  This is a 3 second drop from their previous best time this season.  A couple events prior to the 200 Relay was the 50 Freestyle which Tyler, Erich, and Michael were seeded in the second to last heat, and next to each other in lanes 4, 5, and 6.  The race was very competitive with all three Warriors posting personal best times.  Warrior parents in the stands started to do some quick calculations and realized if they could duplicate their performance in the relay, they would be close to the record.  With distance specialist Todd Landis posting an excellent leg in the relay, the four young men put forth an outstanding effort to break the record and set high expectations for this week’s sectionals.

The lady Warriors were missing some swimmers on Saturday, but the overall quality and depth of the team proved it can hold it’s own against some top notch competition.  Highlighting the evening for the girls swim team were both the A and B relay teams in the 200 Yard Medley and 200 Yard Freestyle finishing in the top ten in each event, Lauren Cruz coming on strong after a mid-season injury with a 3rd Place finish in the Breast Stroke, and the Girls Team finishing a strong 5th place out of nine teams.

The Dayton Christian Swimming & Dive team will be in Sectional Action this week at various locations.  The Divers will be competing on Monday Night at Miami University.  The Boys Sectional will take place Friday evening at the Washington Rec Center with the meet starting at 6:30pm.  The Girls will be at Trotwood Madison on Saturday with the meet starting at 3:30pm.  The Warriors would like to invite you to cheer them on this week as they seek to move on to the Districts at Miami University next weekend.

Re-enrollment Letter from the President’s Office…

DAYTON CHRISTIAN SCHOOL SYSTEM

January 31, 2012

Dear School Family,

The Dayton Christian School System exists for you, the education of your children and the furthering of God’s kingdom. We are honored to partner with you in one of the most important investments that you will make: the Christ-focused education of your child. Thank you for embracing the Biblical responsibility to… teach them diligently [God’s laws] to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise (Deuteronomy 6:7 ESV). The development of a Biblical world-view will yield eternal rewards through a school system that is striving to be excellent in every aspect.

In light of our commitment to solid financial stewardship, the DCSS Board has approved a modest overall 3% tuition increase for 2012/2013 school year.* I am also pleased to announce the Multi-Child Discount, as well as all activity fees and charges, remain unchanged from last year. Additional good news is the reduction in the tuition of K-8 homeschool families from $1275 to $975. I am excited about the future of our homeschool program which brings the flexibility you requested while maintaining the credibility of our program.

On Monday, February 6, 2012, we will open the 2012/2013 Online Re-Enrollment module. This school improvement tool has been further enhanced and will significantly simplify the process for you. One notable change this year is that you will be directed to your school’s individual website for re-enrollment or new student application. Pertinent dates are as follows:
———-

2/3/12 – Parent NetClassroom user ID and password email sent out

2/6/12 – 3/5/12 – Early Re-Enrollment Discount Period (fee is $50 per child)

3/6/12 – 4/30/12 – Regular Re-Enrollment Period** (fee is $100 per child)

———-

Thank you for being a part of raising the next generation of Warriors for Christ!

Gratefully in Christ,

Robert M. Elliott President/CEO

* See Tuition and Fees document online under the Admissions Tab at daytonchristian.com.
