High School Information for New Families – Freshman Parents

Dear Freshman Parents-To-Be,

Welcome to Dayton Christian High School.  I look forward to meeting each of you down the road. In the mean time, allow me to share a few pieces of information with you that could help in the transition to high school.

COURSE SCHEDULING INFORMATION

We are beginning the school re-enrollment process and the course registration process.  Students were given course selection sheets to take home to begin considering their high school academic path. That paperwork contains information regarding the four-year academic plan.  Fill out the course selections and return that form to the middle school office. Your student will then be called up to meet with Mrs. Diana Perkey, freshman course counselor, to finalize their selections.  We are making ourselves available to chat with any parent who would desire some guidance or additional information. Please be sure to re-enroll your student with the admissions office. We cannot enter your student’s schedule into the database until you have done so.

Here is a list of folks with whom you could touch base for scheduling help:

Diana Perkey:  937-291-7285       dperkey@daytonchristian.com
Jennifer Reno: 937-291-7287       jreno@daytonchristian.com
Brent Davis:  937-291-7288           bdavis@daytonchristian.com

SUMMER SCHOOL INFORMATION

We are beginning a new opportunity by offering summer school courses for freshman. These offerings are intended to clear schedule space for other options. We currently have three classes available: Composition, Boys and Girls Health, and American History that you can take this summer.

Composition and Health courses will free up a freshman’s j-term schedule to take other courses. Normally, a freshman is automatically scheduled to take these two courses during j-term of their freshman year. Here is a list of other options for a freshman during j-term if they get either Composition or Health out of the way during the summer: video production, desktop publishing, biblical counseling, interior design, jazz band, ministry trip (must apply), introduction to greek, meteorology, and robotics.

We are also allowing freshman to take American History during the summer. This will free up their sophomore year when some are taking a double-period chemistry course.

Things to consider… See the information page on the WarriorDaily Blog for summer school info.
