Joey Williamitis’ Eagle Scout Project consisted of building a fifty foot erosion prevention boardwalk over a quickly eroding trail. After planning the design, he went straight to work on cutting his 1000+ pounds of lumber to length and pre-drilling holes where screws would later go. Transporting the lumber was no easy task, Joey had to first load a truck to carry the wood to Fort Ancient State Park, and then carry the pieces individually down a quarter mile long, steep, treacherous hill. The first task to do at the work site was to hand level the tough clay-like ground with shovels, pickaxes, and rakes. Leading his work crew, Joey then dug trenches to help even more to level the boardwalk. With the help of adults at the scene, he squared the boardwalk edges and placed the frames in their respective locations. With the major part of the project over, the crew went straight to work screwing in skids on top of the already level frames. After all the drilling, Joey screwed in one last thing, his plaque recognizing the one hundred and fourteen hours of work he and his crew had accomplished.
Congratulations, Joey! Dayton Christian is very proud of your contributions to the community!
